Middlebury Finishes Third In Directors' Cup Standings

Middlebury College has finished third in the 2013 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup race. The Panthers earned their 10th consecutive top-five finish, after winning its first cup a year ago. Williams reclaimed the crown with 1,273 points, followed by Emory (986), Middlebury (941), Wisconsin-Whitewater (895) and Washington Univ. (859). Three other NESCAC school were among the top 20, led by Amherst (6th), Tufts (8th) and Bowdoin (17th).

The fall began as the Middlebury field hockey team advanced to the NCAA regional finals. The men's cross country team placed a school-best eighth at the NCAA's, while the women turned in an 11th place finish. The women's soccer team also advanced to the NCAA regional finals in the fall, while the volleyball team had a solid run in the NCAA's.

The women's hockey team led the way in the winter, advancing to the NCAA Championship game. Men's basketball advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, while the ski team hosted the NCAA's with a solid finish. Both swim teams earned points with athletes competing at the NCAA's, while women's track also contributed with some nice performances.

Some great team efforts highlighted the spring, as the women's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA semifinals. Both tennis teams won NCAA regionals, before advancing to the NCAA quarterfinal round. The women's golf team returned to the NCAA's, while men's track & field athletes earned NCAA points.
