Kyle Dezotell ‘03 Selected To Vermont Sports Hall of Fame

Dezotell helped the Panthers to their first NESCAC Championship in 2000.

Former Middlebury men's soccer player and nordic skiing athlete Kyle Dezotell '03 has been selected as an inductee for the 2025 Vermont Sports Hall of Fame. Dezotell will be part of the 13-member induction class set to be honored on April 26.

The Derby, Vermont native was a four-year member of the men's soccer team, graduating as the all-time leading scorer in goals (34) and is tied for second in career assists (22). An All-NESCAC First Team honoree in his final season in 2002, Dezotell helped guide the program to an ECAC Crown in 1999 and its first NESCAC Championship in 2000. Overall, the Panthers put together a 44-10-15 record during those four seasons.

On the slopes, Dezotell suited up for the nordic skiing team from 2001-03. A Vermont State and New England Champion at North Country Union High School, he was part of two runner-up Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) team finishes at Middlebury in 2002 and 2003. The program also made three-consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships, finishing as high as seventh place in 2001.

After graduating from Middlebury with a bachelor's degree in film & english studies in 2003, Dezotell embarked on a coaching career beginning as an assistant for Saint Michael's before spending over a decade as head coach of Vermont State Johnson (2004-05) and Norwich (2006-15). During his tenure, Dezotell had a combined record of 140-83-25 and was named coach of the year five times. His 2008 squad at Norwich went 18-3-1 and secured the Great American Conference crown before falling to Middlebury in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

He made coaching stops at Manhattanville (2016) and Ithaca  (2017-19) before being named head coach at Tufts in March 2020. Dezotell has tallied a 37-9-14 record, one NESCAC Championship (2022) and three NCAA Tournament appearances for the Jumbos.

With this honor, Dezotell becomes the sixth Middlebury student-athlete inducted into the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame, joining Ann Battelle, Lea Davison, Ray Fisher, Phil Latreille and Andrew Johnson.

The class will be formally inducted on Saturday, April 26, at the 2025 Vermont Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and Celebration at the Delta Marriott Burlington Hotel. The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony. The full list of honorees can be found here.
