The Middlebury men's golf team travels to Massachusetts for the NESCAC Championship. This year, the event has been expanded to a three-day, 54-hole tournament and will take place at the Taconic Golf Club.
ABOUT MIDDLEBURY
- The Panthers are seeking their 11th league crown, owning the second-most to Williams (13).
- Middlebury has claimed two of the last four NESCAC Championships, hoisting the trophy in 2023 and 2021.
- Last season, the Panthers placed fifth with a score of 601 (295-306).
- The squad has tallied 11 individual medalist honors, including co-champions in 2023.
PANTHERS TO WATCH
- Leading the team in a pair of spring invites has been Brendan Maykel. The senior recorded a career-low single-round (72) and combined score (147) at the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational.
- Sandwiched around his dominant alpine ski season, Bradshaw Underhill has produced strong showings for Middlebury. He was the first scorer in three out of five events in the fall and led the Panthers at Skidmore with a 10th-place performance. During that weekend, Underhill had a career low single round of 70 and a 36-hole career best score of 142.
- Charlie Schulman has been a consistent competitor for Middlebury this spring. The Panther's best performance came in the spring invite hosted by the Thoroughbreds, carding a 71 over the final 18 holes to secure 20th overall.
- Paul Fine-Lease has been in the lineup for most of the year. The Panther shot a personal-low 72 on the opening day at Skidmore two weeks ago.
- Henry Harrison has appeared in one invite in the spring, carding a two-day score of 149 at the Dr. Tim Brown Invite.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
- The Ephs pace the NESCAC with 13 championships, but have not claimed a crown since 2017.
- Tufts won its lone league title in 2024, combining for a two-day score of 587 (296-291). Jack Meehan has earned medalist honors in three of the last four editions of the championship, with the 2023 event shortened to 27 holes due to weather.
- Middlebury and Williams have recorded the lowest combined two-day score of 585. The Panthers set the mark first in 2011 before the Ephs tied it in 2017. The single-round low of 281 was set by Trinity in 2019.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
Middlebury will be in the third wave of tee times on Friday, with golfers going off every 10 minutes starting at 12:40 p.m. The first wave begins at 11:00 a.m.
