Moritz Posts Pair Of Top-10 Finishes At FIS Junior World Championships

Middlebury alpine skier Kjersti Moritz recorded a pair of top-10 finishes while representing the United States of America at the recent FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships. The international event was held from February 27 through March 6 in Tarvisio, Italy.

Moritz was one half of the women's team combined pair that tallied a seventh-place effort. She skied down the mountain with a clocking of 38.90 seconds, combining with Logan Grosdidier from Colorado for a time of 1:03.83. Individually, Moritz raced to eighth place in the slalom, finishing as the top US skier. She cruised down the slopes with a first-run effort of 43.00 seconds and followed that with a clocking of 46.48 seconds on her second run for a total time of 1:29.48. Moritz also competed in the giant slalom (GS) but didn't finish her first trip.

"I had so much fun representing the United States and Middlebury last week in Italy," said Moritz. "This was one of the biggest races I've competed at, and it felt good to race against the best juniors in the world. I am very proud of my performance, especially in the slalom, and I am excited that I got to represent the collegiate circuit on the world stage. It was also really cool to compete alongside my twin sister Liv."

"It was impressive to see Kjersti perform as the top United States skier in the slalom at Junior World Championships," said Middlebury alpine head coach Stever Bartlett. "Her journey as a dual sport NCAA student-athlete and top junior athlete on the US Ski Team (and in the world) is a great story and a compliment to her commitment to excelling in more than just ski racing."

Moritz competed in two carnivals this season, posting top-five results in all four disciplines. She won the GS during the Middlebury Carnival while finishing as the runner-up in the slalom. Moritz also earned third (slalom) and fourth (GS) at the Dartmouth Carnival. She was selected to represent Middlebury in the NCAA Championships but opted to train and participate instead in the FIS Junior World Ski Championships.
