#2 Middlebury Defeats #6 Plattsburgh State 2-1 In Overtime

The #2 Middlebury women's ice hockey team defeated #6 Plattsburgh State 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday evening in Chip Kenyon '85 Arena.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • With 6:32 expired in the first period, Kylie Quinlan looked to get the Panthers on the board with a shot that goalie Chloe Lewis slid over to stop.
  • Mae Olshansky's shot whistled from the boards 11:25 into the period on the power play, but netminder Sophia Merageas stood her ground on the post to thwart the attempt.
  • At the 18:21 mark, Olivia Gordon skated down the ice before firing a shot from the faceoff dot that Lewis denied.
  • Just 19 seconds later, the Cardinals took a 1-0 edge. Seoyoung Yoo sent a pass from along the boards that bounced off the skate of Sydnee Francis. The puck landed on the stick of Ciara Wall, who tapped it in on the right pipe to give Plattsburgh State the one-goal lead.
  • With 5:38 elapsed in the second period, Kate Conlon nearly doubled the advantage. She collected the puck at center ice and skated into the Middlebury zone, but her shorthanded bid was denied by Merageas' blocker.
  • Jordan Hower had a breakaway chance with 10:48 remaining, but Lewis snagged the puck out of the air to keep the hosts at bay.
  • Middlebury tied the game with 8:56 left. Sabrina Kim sent a pass to Britt Nawrocki before Nawrocki fired a shot from the left faceoff dot that went over the right shoulder of Lewis.
  • Olshansky looked to regain the lead for Plattsburgh State off a backhanded flip with 14:27 expired, but Merageas used her pad to deny the chance.
  • At the 8:54 mark of the third period, Rachel Neyman delivered a shot from the right post that went into the body of Lewis.
  • Raia Schluter fired a chance from between the circles with 8:28 remaining, but her bid trickled off the glove of Lewis and caromed away.
  • Looking to score early, Yoo fired a one-timer 24 seconds into overtime that Merageas snared with her glove.
  • The Panthers put the game away with 1:43 left in the extra session. Olivia McManus picked the puck up at the blue line before passing ahead to Hower, whose shot knuckled through the legs of Lewis to give Middlebury the 2-1 win.
