Men’s Swimming & Diving Competes At Three-Day Invite

Shen earned a pair of individual victories over the weekend.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team closed out first-semester action at the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca. The Panthers competed on Friday, Saturday and during the preliminaries on Sunday. The squad was in second place on Sunday following prelims with 807 points and concluded the meet in fifth place.
 
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Paul Shen claimed the crown in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 55.42. Masiello (56.97) and Thomas (57.69) placed third and fourth, respectively. 
  • Stefanos Salas earned third in the 400 individual medley (IM) at 4:06.94.
  • Fourth-place finishes came from Bigelow in the 1650 free (16:37.02), Luke McNamara in the 200 fly (1:55.03) and Jack Undercofler in the 100 back (51.30). 
SUNDAY PRELIM HIGHLIGHTS
  • Bigelow (4:44.69), Sonne (4:44.94) and McKenna (4:45.45) placed fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 500 freestyle. 
  • In the 200 back, Hughes paced the Middlebury swimmers with the fourth-fastest time (1:53.03). 
  • The Panthers touched the wall in third, sixth and eighth in the 100 back, led by Ben Bryan with a time of 51.23. 
  • Claiming the top spot in the preliminaries in the 200 breaststroke was Shen, touching the wall in 2:04.39. 
  • Masiella had the third-fastest time  in the 100 free with a time of 46.62. 
  • Salas touched the wall first in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:54.88.  
Middlebury returns to action on January 11 with a meet at Colby beginning at 1:00 p.m.
