Men’s Track & Field Records Trio Of Top-10 Finishes At Open New Englands

The Middlebury men's track and field team sent several competitors to the Open New England Championships on Friday and Saturday. The two-day event was hosted by Northeastern and featured athletes from all three NCAA divisions. 
 
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Peter Hansen had a strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles. He posted the fourth-quickest time of 54.01 during Friday's preliminary run, before placing seventh in Saturday's final (57.00).
  • Dave Filias finished in ninth place in a field of 21 with a toss of 57.67 meters in the hammer. The Panther was the top Division III finisher behind eight Division I athletes.
  • In the shortest event of the meet, Richard Clark finished in 14th place out of 27 sprinters during the 100 with a time of 11.02. 
  • Douglas Rosin concluded the opening day in the 10,000, posting a 19th-place time of 32:36.85.
  • Walker Coleman hit the sand in 20th place during the long jump (6.36m). 
  • A few events earlier, Jefferson Hill crossed the finish line in 23rd during the 110 hurdles (15.53). 
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Dan Urchuk kicked off the second day with a career-best distance in the discus, hurling the implement 44.79m to place 12th.
  • The 4x100 relay quartet of Marco Motroni, Clark, Aidan Castanon and Aaron Tobias posted an 11th-place time of 41.98. Later in the day, the 4x400 team of Colin Breen, Xander Swann, Luke Hayes and Hansen stopped the clock with the seventh-fastest time (3:19.82). 
  • Zach Utz recorded a time of 1:54.38, which was good for 14th place out of 28 runners in the 800. 
Middlebury will have several competitors at the Williams Last Chance meet on Wednesday before the field for the NCAA Championships is announced on May 21.
