Barns, Kaiden, Louie and Virzi broke the school record in the 4x100 relay.
The Middlebury women's track and field team had four first-place finishes and broke a school record at the Point Loma Nazarene University Collegiate Invite on Saturday. The meet concluded the Panther's spring trip to California. They are idle next week before returning to competition on April 9 at the Amherst Spring Fling.
The 4x100-meter relay team composed of
Joely Virzi,
Michelle Louie,
Eva Kaiden and
Cady Barns finished third with a school-record time of 48.70. The previous record of 48.78 was set back in 2019. The 4x400 relay quartet of
Cassie Kearney,
Nicole Johnson, Louie and
Elle Thompson won the event with a clocking of 4:56.17.
Barns, Kearney and Johnson each had individual victories during the meet. Kearney was victorious in the 1,500m with a time of 4:32.89, while
Katelyn Pease was right behind in third place (4:42.30). Johnson claimed the 400m (58.55), with
Jaqueline Topping a spot back (59.33). The Panthers swept the long jump with six athletes finishing in the top-eight spots. Barns won the event with a leap of 5.40m, followed by
Macy Daggitt in second (4.98m) and
Zoe Wang in third (4.89m).
Jaxon Palmer finished as the runner-up in the javelin with a toss of 36.14m, while
Reilly Isler was right behind in third (30.74m).
Mary Scott Robinson recorded a pair of third-place nods, tossing the shot put 11.37m, and recording a mark of 34.98m in the hammer.
Ciara Dale crossed the finish line in 1:04.35 in the 400 hurdles to place second, while Louie was third in the 200 with a clocking of 25.45.
Other second-placed finishes came from Daggitt in the high jump (1.55m) and Wang in the pole vault (3.20m).
