Kearney Wins 800 As Panthers Open Spring Season in California

Briana Johnson was a member of the second-place 4x100 relay.
The Middlebury women's track and field team opened the outdoor season at the Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Meet in California. The Panthers return to PLNU for the Collegiate Open next Saturday. 
 
Cassie Kearney stopped the clock in the 800-meter run with a winning time of 2:10.82. Nicole Johnson was right behind in second place with a clocking of 2:13.02. 
 
Kate Kenny earned runner-up honors in the 1,500m with a time of 4:36.89. 
 
The 4x100 relay quartet of Joely Virzi, Briana Johnson, Michelle Louie and Cady Barns placed second with a clocking of 49.00. The 4x400 relay of Johnson, Louie, Kearney and Elle Thompson earned runner-up laurels with a time of 4:03.78. 
 
Bea Parr finished in fourth place in the 5,000 with a time of 17:51.20, while Barns placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.12m. 
 
Other top-10 finishes came from Louie in the 100 (eighth) with a time of 12.60, Mary Scott Robinson in the shot put (ninth) with a mark of 11.74m and Peyton Belsher who tied for 10th in the high jump (1.50m).
