Men's Tennis Wraps Up Fall At Stony Brook

The Panther men's tennis team took part in the Stony Brook Invitational Tournament in New York over the weekend. The Panthers were joined by Division I, II and III teams at the tourney, with solid performances in several brackets.

Senior Jeronimo Riefkohl (Munich, Germany) and his sophomore brother Johann both advanced to the semifinals of their respective brackets. Jeronimo earned two wins, including a tight 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory to advance to the quarterfinal round. He then fell 7-5, 3-6, 10-2 in the semifinals of the "C" bracket. Johann had a first round bye before earning a 6-4, 1-6, 10-4 win in the quarterfinals and falling 6-1, 6-4 in the semi's of the "D" flight.

In doubles play, sophomores Alec Parower (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Chris Schlabach (Chattanooga, Tenn.) went on a nice run in the "B" flight, advancing to the championship match. The duo won their first match 8-0, edged out a tight win in the quarterfinals 9-8 (4) before cruising into the finals with an 8-0 victory. They fell by a score of 8-5 in the finals to Jacobs and Grindon of Bowdoin.

Junior David Farah (Flint, Mich.) and sophomore Spencer Lunghino (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) won two matches in the "A" flight, 8-0 and 9-7, before falling in the semifinals 8-4 to a pair from Conn.
