Indoor Track Opens Season

The Middlebury College indoor track teams opened up their season by competing at the 40th Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H. Several Division I, II and III teams were in action, along with some clubs and individuals.

Sophomore Adam Dede (West Chester, Ohio) had a top finish for the men, placing fifth in the pole vault by clearing 13'.25", qualifying for the D3 New England's. Also qualifying was first-year racer John Montroy (Mahwah, N.J.), with a time of 9.01 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Senior Kelly Coughlan (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) qualified for the women, placing sixth with a leap of 36'2" in the triple jump. Also qualifying were first-year racer Mia Martinez (Ridgewood, N.J.) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.73) and sophomore Allison Astolfi (Merrimack, N.H.) in the long jump (15'7.75").

The women's 4x400 relay team comprised of sophomores Grace Close (Fox Point, Wis.) and Katy Magill (Boxford, Mass.) and rookies Rebecca Fanning (Ipswich, Mass.) and Julia Sisson (Omaha, Neb.) finished seventh overall in 4:13.79.

Five different women qualified for the N.E.'s in the 400, including Magill (61.91), Sisson (62.76), Fanning (63.18), Close (63.38) and rookie Kara Montbleau (Pelham, N.H.) (63.68).
